About Scott Air Force Base
Located approximately 7-8 miles from the Regency is Scott Air Force Base. Known in the community for frequent fly-overs; the military and civilian personnel that are assigned to the several squadrons that work at the Base has the primary responsibility of global mobility activities including medical evacuation activities, executive air transportation, and air refueling missions for the Department of Defense.
Base Tours for Your Guests
Scott Air Force Base offers public tours to local civic organizations, schools and youth groups to help educate the community about the U.S. Air Force and the role Scott AFB plays in defending our nation. It gives participants a close-up look at some amazing aircraft and a glimpse into the lives of the men and women who support our national security. Minimal requirements for groups include:
- All guests must be 14 years of age or older.
- Limited to 25-45 people (typically what will fit in a commercial bus)
- The group must be contained to one vehicle (i.e. a bus)
Accommodations can be made for persons with limited mobility. However, in all cases be mindful that the availability of tours and their right to make last minute changes to their schedule solely depends completely on the current national security status, and their schedule to meet mission requirements.
Request a Speaker
Scott AFB has a speakers bureau that works with the community to provide information about the base’s missions. With a strong foundation in communications and emergency evacuation, they have experts on aviation history, cybersecurity, career opportunities in the military and leadership skills. It is preferred you make a request 4-6 weeks in advance of your event to allow for their assignment.
Honor Guard and Color Guard Service
There is something genuinely “official” when an Honor Guard or Color Guard is present at the opening of your event. Scott Air Force Base has men and women who are available to provide Honor Guard or Color Guard service at the request of the community and as their schedules permit. These service presentations typically provide a foundation to do a flag ceremony or provide a patriotic presence for a parade or similar flag-related fanfare.
Band Requests
According to the USAF Band of Mid America website, they provide music for official military functions, ceremonies as well as civic events and public concerts throughout the Midwest states of Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Iowa, Arkansas, Minnesota, Tennessee, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. They have several different ensembles and bands and always provide superb entertainment.
Book Your Event Near their Open House
Being the closest AFB near the Regency, we often encounter a wide variety of planes that cross our airway in route to Scott Air Force Base. Some of our favorite guests to see include the Blue Angels who typically make it to the St. Louis area for an air show once per year. Scotts Air Force Base also holds an Open House in Spring that can also include a visit from the Blue Angels if their schedule allows. If you’ve never been to a military air show, it’s a fun time and worthwhile adventure. They have a variety of planes that you can get up-close and personal to and/or go inside. Performance of take-off and landing tactics can be included as well as pilots and support personnel on hand to help answer questions.
